The buzz surrounding The Game Awards was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The secret has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very descent into chaos.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, player agency, and complex character building—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be approached in diverse methods, sometimes in surprising fashion.
