Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the quickest lap in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, lying 36 points Norris, finished in P17 as his team followed a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, though minor, when he lost control at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th place, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
